Tips for Having a Safe Hanukkah with Fido

Hanukkah is a great time to spend with friends and family. So, how can you have a safe Hanukkah with your furry friend?

Off-Limits

Try to keep your four-legged friend out of the kitchen while cooking. Many traditional foods, while delicious to us, are dangerous for your pal. For example, onions, yeast dough, chocolate, and fatty and sugary foods should be avoided. So, be sure your furry friend doesn’t eat any latkes, sufganiyot, or chocolate gelt.

Food

Just because traditional Hanukkah food is off limits doesn’t mean your pal has to miss out on treats all together. So, you can give your companion some alternatives so they can still be a part of the traditions. Instead of latkes you can give your pal plain baked potatoes. Additionally, lean beef is a great alternative to brisket and carob chips can be substituted for gelt. Be sure to feed your pup plain, unseasoned foods this holiday season.

Dreidels

You can’t go through the Hanukkah season without a game or two of dreidel! However, dreidels pose a choking hazard to your companion. So, be sure to never leave dreidels out where your furry friend can snag one. Instead, get fido this adorable dreidel toy to play with!

Menorah

Lighting the menorah is one of the most important traditions of Hanukkah. However, open flames can be dangerous for pets. So, keep the menorah in a room that your pal is not allowed in. Or, keep it on a shelf or table where your companion can not access it.

Other Safety

The health and safety of our furry friends is the most important thing we can do. So, be mindful of any hazards from food to decoration. Make sure outfits and accessories are comfortable and non-restrictive. Always keep an eye on your pal to ensure they are not getting into any mischief. Also, keep the trash locked away and any leftovers stored away.

Follow the tips above to ensure a fun and safe Hanukkah with your furry friend!
