Commonly asked questions
Puppy biting is a natural behavior called mouthing — puppies explore the world with their mouths. Redirect to a tug toy or chew when teeth touch skin, and stop play immediately. Consistency across everyone in the household is critical.
Whining at the door is an anticipation behavior that's been unintentionally reinforced if you open the door while your dog is vocalizing. Wait for calm silence before opening the door to break the cycle.
Heeling requires sustained focus and impulse control. If your dog heels at home but pulls on walks, the environment is too distracting for the current training level. Build duration and distraction gradually with high-value rewards.
Dogs don't generalize commands automatically. A "sit" learned in the living room isn't automatically understood at the park. Proof commands across multiple environments, gradually increasing distraction levels each session.
Class environments are highly stimulating. Your puppy isn't being stubborn — their arousal level is too high to focus. Use very high-value treats in class and practice calming exercises before asking for commands.
Physical exercise alone can increase stamina without reducing hyperactivity. Mental stimulation — training sessions, puzzle feeders, sniff work — is often more effective. Try structured settle exercises and a consistent wind-down routine after activity.
