Making Bath Time Enjoyable for You & Your Dog

While we all love our dogs, sometimes our furry friends definitely need a bath. Bathing your dog is a huge necessity, but can also be a hassle if your dog is not a fan of bath time. Here are some tips to making bath time fun and enjoyable for your and your pup!

What You’ll Need

Here’s a list of all the items you should have on hand near you for bath time.

  • Hose or handheld spray for the taps if using a sink or bath
  • Towels
  • Bathmat or something clean to stand on if outside
  • Shampoos/conditioners
  • Brush
  • Face washer or sponge
  • Hairdryer if you need a quick dry
  • Cotton wool
  • Ear cleaner
  • Nail clippers
  • Treats

Where to Wash

If you have a smaller dog, you can probably use a laundry sink, normal bathtub, or even the bottom of your shower to wash your dog. Use a non-slip mat to make it easier for your dog. If your dog is larger and it’s warm outside, outside by a hose is probably your best bet. It can also make it easier for you to dry off your dog by having them run around a little.

What to Use

Not all human shampoos are safe for dogs. Use a gentle and good quality pet shampoo and use different types depending on if your dog’s skin is greasy or dry. Most dogs do not need conditioner unless their hair is very dry.

How to Bathe

Always keep a hand on your dog when you are washing them so they wont shake off and try to leave the bath. Have everything ready before your start and make sure you give a good massage while shampooing and toweling off to make it enjoyable for your pet. Bath time is the perfect time to check your pet’s nails, ears, teeth and skin for any cuts or new lumps and bumps. Feel your pet all over while you are massaging with shampoo.
