Temperament and Personality

Cavapoos are the extremely lovable cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a miniature or toy poodle. They have the loving disposition of the Cavalier mixed with the non-shedding, hypoallergenic poodle. They are loyal, sweet, and sensitive to human moods.

Since poodles are one of the smartest dog breeds, these dogs are typically easy to train with consistent positive reinforcement.

Cavapoos develop strong attachments to humans which means they will love you endlessly, but also means they can develop separation anxiety if left alone for too long. They get along well with other pets but Cavapoos in distress can often resort to barking, chewing, or digging.

Health

Cavapoos are generally very healthy, but like all dog breeds, are prone to certain ailments.

  • Cherry Eye or Dry Eye
  • Addison’s disease which affects the adrenal glands
  • Diabetes
  • Cushing’s disease

Care

Due to the Cavapoo’s luxurious curly coat, they need a lot of grooming. First, brushing at least a few times a week is extremely important to prevent mats and tangles, especially around the tail, hind legs, and lower belly. They also need to be monitored regularly for infections in the ears, eyes, and skin. Baths and professional grooming should be done roughly every six weeks in order to keep your pooch happy and healthy.

This breed can have a propensity for dental issues, so daily teeth brushing is advised to keep tooth bacteria at bay. This breed can also develop tear stains around their eyes which can be wiped away with a warm, wet cloth each day.

Overall, the Cavapoo is a wonderful family dog. They will love your family wholeheartedly and be extremely loyal and cuddly.
