Do Doodle Dog Breeds Shed?

Do Doodle Dog Breeds Shed?

It seems like the search for a shed-free pooch is neverending. But, Doodle breeds are increasingly becoming the new “it” dog. Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are two extremely popular cross-breeds that have made it on the up of some of the most sought-after dog breeds. These Doodle dogs were bred to create more hypoallergic dog breed options for people with allergic reactions to pups.

Hypoallergenic dogs are more suitable for those with dog allergens because they don’t shed as much, therefore producing less dander in the air.

Poodles are one of the halves of the breed that makes up different Doodles, but they’re also considered very hypoallergenic dogs! So it only makes sense that Doodle mixes take after their Poodle side in the lack of excess shedding.

The Run Down on Doodles

Doodles are deemed fun-loving, caring, and sweet dogs. They have a reputation for being a perfect pet for families. Their go-lucky attitudes, playful lifestyles,  and clean behavior make them great for any family looking for a pup.

Labradoodles are the original cross-breed that gave Doodles such a pristine reputation. The mix between Labrador and Poodle makes a perfect match for a dog that is adorable, friendly, and allergen-reducing!

There is no escaping the inevitable allergens in a dog’s dander, urine, or saliva. It’s important to note that Doodles do in fact shed, but quite a lot less than other breeds. And although there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic breed, Doodles are a close first pick for people with allergies.

Most Doodles have fur that isn’t prone to extreme shedding. Depending on the mix of the Doodle, some breeds have wavy, silky coats or tightly curled fur. It’s important to note that their coats are higher maintenance. They usually require a brush a few times a week and trims 8-10 weeks to keep up with their growing coats. But consistent grooming is a great way to keep excess shedding down and reduce the allergens in the air!

Doodles are wonderful dogs to have in the home due to their loving nature, plus the small amounts of shedding!
