DIY Dehydrated Dog Treats

DIY Dehydrated Dog Treats

Making your own dog treats may sound intimidating, but we promise it’s not as difficult as it sounds! Dehydrated dog treats are a great way to get creative in the kitchen and show your dog that you care. Read on for some inspiration for making your own dehydrated dog treats.

Sweet Potato Chews

Sweet potato chews are a fun seasonal treat for your dog to enjoy, plus they’re super easy to make. Simply scrub some sweet potatoes or yams (you don’t even need to peel them!) and slice into roughly 1/8″-3/8″ pieces. Lay them out on your dehydrator trays and dry them for 3-12 hours. You’ll know that they’re done when you’re able to twist them without the potato breaking apart. Simple and delicious!

Dried Banana Treats

If your dog is feeling fruity, dried banana dog treats are the perfect option for them. We recommend using firm bananas if possible. Again, you can slice them into 1/8″-3/8″ pieces and dry them on your dehydrator trays for 3-12 hours. To really spice things up, try rolling the pieces in melted peanut butter or coconut oil before drying. We’re paws-itive that your dog will be drooling over these yummy treats!

Chicken Jerky Treats

For dogs who love savory treats, chicken jerky is the way to go! We recommend using boneless, skinless chicken breasts and trimming off any excess fat. Slice the chicken breasts with the grain into 1/8″-3/8″ thick pieces. As with the other treats, you can place these on your dehydrator trays for 3-12 hours. To check if they’re done, just slice a piece in half and check the middle to make sure it’s dry and the same color throughout.

Liver Treats

Even dehydrated liver treats are easy to whip up for your dog! You can use chicken, beef, or even lamb/game meat liver if you’re feeling fancy. You know the drill: simply slice the liver into smaller 1/8″-3/8″ pieces and lay them out on your dehydrator trays for 3-12 hours. You’ll know the treats are done when the middle is completely dry and the color is the same throughout the treat.

Pupperoni Treats

If our dogs are anything like us, we know they’re suckers for some good pepperoni! Buy some plain, unspiced turkey sausage and lay them out on your dehydrator trays. This time, you’ll dry the sausage for 6-12 hours until they’re flexible but dry and consistently-colored. Your dog will scarf up these fun, low-mess treats before you can say “pupperoni!”

DIY just got that much easier. Try these dehydrated dog treats to switch up your dog’s diet and give them a little extra TLC.
