Tips to Going Green with Your Dog

Tips to Going Green with Your Dog

There are more than 70 million dogs existing in the U.S., which makes for something around 37-47% of households in the U.S. Our dogs are well established members of the family. Good news is, you can reduce your dog’s carbon paw-print ASAP.

Buy Green

Carefully read products labels first and make sure that they are biodegradable and are made up of eco-friendly materials and packaging. For example, next time you go shopping for you pup, look for a hemp collar and leash, or a dog bed made from organic cotton.

Natural Grooming

Use eco-friendly biodegradable shampoos and conditioners that are free from chemicals, coloring, preservatives, and toxic ingredients. Regular shampoo and conditioner can lead to allergic reactions, and cause water pollution when they go down the drain.

Organic Dog Food

Save agricultural land, energy and resources used to raise meat found in commercial dog food. Meat found in natural and organic dog food is barely processed, raised sustainably, and free of added hormones, preservatives, chemicals and more.

Scoop That Poop

Use biodegradable bags to pick up your dog’s poop instead of the common plastic bags that go to landfills, take 100’s of years to decompose and lead to contaminations. A dog is responsible for around 274 pounds of poop a year. Imagine what would happen if we never properly picked up after our dogs.

Spay and Neuter

Getting your pup spayed or neutered will decrease unplanned puppy births, which will reduce puppy overpopulation in shelters, conserved food, energy and resources that would otherwise be spent on rescued dogs in shelters and lastly, save the environment from large amounts of waste made by homeless puppies.

Just consider the fact that more than 70,000 puppies and kittens in the U.S. alone are born every day, only to become homeless.

Do you have any suggestions we did’t mention on how to reduce your dog’s carbon paw-print? We would love to hear from you!
