Fun Ways to Exercise Your Dog
Just like any old habit, taking your dog for the same walk down the same path every day can get redundant and boring. Luckily, we have some fun variations to the classic dog walk for you to try out with your pup! If that doesn’t spice things up enough for you, we have more unconventional ways for your pup to get some exercise here in San Antonio!
Let your Dog Walk you
For a fun twist on your routine walks, try having your dog lead the way. Wherever they go, you follow! They are sure to sniff out some fun, refreshing routes.
Run with your Dog
We know running can be tough, but dogs love to stretch their legs out on a nice trot, and it’s great exercise for you, too! Try setting goals for the two of you to run together on a nearby dog-friendly trail.
Flyball
For the athletic pup, Flyball is a competitive sport similar to a relay race. Hurdles, tennis balls, and penalties make this race great exercise for your dog! Check out San Antonio’s own Flyball team and consider enrolling your pup in some training.
Agility Class
Group workout classes are great for comradery and an extra boost of confidence while exercising. Your dog will love the high-energy running and jumping, especially when accompanied by their own furry friends!
Play Fetch
Whether you use a stick or a tennis ball, a simple game of fetch is an excellent way to keep your dog entertained and in shape! On frigid or rainy days, you can even bring the game indoors.
Exercise Their Brain
While physical exercise is crucial for your dog’s health, cognitive strength often gets overlooked. After basic obedience commands are learned, your dog may not experience as many cognitive challenges to keep their mind sharp. Try teaching them to high five, shake, or bow on command! This will be a fun activity for you and your dog and is sure to impress all of your friends!
Exercise should be fun, not a chore! Enjoy these creative ideas to make sure your dog is getting the exercise (and joy) that they need.
