Tips for Bringing Your Dog to the Office in 2022

Many people have experienced the joys of having their pet around while working from home these past few years. Pets can be great company, reduce stress, and create a good work environment. But many people, and pets, are concerned about losing their day companions as they head back into the office.

Some people may be able to bring their pets into the office with them, though. Before escorting a four-legged friend into an office setting, there are many things to consider. If you decide to bring your pup to work, there may be some obstacles. We have compiled a list of tips to make the process easier for everyone.

Is Your Dog Fit for Office Life?

If your workplace decides it is alright to bring your pet in, several considerations should be taken to ensure your animal is the right fit.

  • Is your dog loud?
  • Is your dog potty trained?
  • Is your dog good with others?
  • Is your dog able to occupy themselves?

These are questions to ask yourself before transitioning to office life. If your dog is vocal, your office mates may not be appreciative of barks and whines. If not potty trained, you will have to take them out often. Dogs that are not amiable with others may not be the best fit for office life. If brought to the workplace, dogs should keep themselves busy to not disturb others.

Commuting

If you have to drive near or far to work, you should invest in the proper car security for your pet. Dog carriers or harnesses allow the driver to focus and could save your dog’s life if in an accident.

Make Your Dog at Home

By making your dog feel relaxed and invited, they will enjoy their time at the office a lot more. If you are able, make them a cozy area with a bed, blanket, toys, or anything else your dog enjoys.

Keeping things like toys, treats, and food on hand can allow for rewards and occupation. Having these things at the office is convenient if you need to hit a meeting. Remember that squeakers in toys can be quite a nuisance, though, so try to choose quiet toys.

Be Prepared

Accidents and inconveniences will likely happen, but it is always best to prepare. Keep floor cleaner and towels at your desk if your animal has an accident.  If your dog is a snorer, try to reposition them in their sleep so others are not disturbed. When your dog farts, try using air fresheners and anti-gas treats. When mishaps like this occur, it is best to be prepared, apologetic, and respectful.

Finally, have fun! Not everyone can take their dog into the office, so consider yourself lucky and enjoy the time together with your furry friend.
