Allowing Your Pup to Explore Through Smell

Why Dogs Love to Sniff
Dogs are equipped with a sense of smell that we simply cannot fathom. In fact, dogs can have up to 300 million olfactory receptors compared to the 5 million us humans have. They have this super sense for a reason. Dogs take in more of their environment via scent than they do sight. Imagine being taken into a new environment and not being allowed to get your barring visually. It would be rather disorienting wouldn’t it? This is exactly how your dog feels when they are not allowed to sniff and take things in.
Take Your Time When Walking Your Dog
If you find that you often have to hurry your dog along when you’re on walks as they sniff seemingly everything, we encourage you to slow down a bit. Allow your dog to smell their surroundings. It might even be a good idea to shorten the distance of your daily walk to allow time for exploring.
