Happy Memorial Day from Sit Means Sit South Denver
Spring is in the air, and graduation season is upon us. This can only mean one thing, it’s time for the first holiday weekend of the summer. The warm weather is the perfect excuse to head to the lake, go camping, take a hike or simply grill at home. And the best part, most of this weekend’s traditional activities are dog friendly!
On behalf of everyone here at Sit Means Sit South Denver, we would like to wish your family a happy and healthy Memorial Day! As you celebrate this weekend, we encourage you to take extra precautions to protect the safety of your fur babies. Here are a few tips to ensure the whole family enjoys a safe and happy holiday weekend.
Leash Time!
Even if you often allow your dog to take walks or venture out without a leash, this is not the weekend to practice those skills. Parks and hiking trails will be busier than usual this weekend. This is why we encourage you to have your furry companion on a leash if you head out to public places. Even if your pup’s behavior is not a concern, having them on a leash is the best way to protect them if you encounter an aggressive dog.
Keep the Grill Out of the Way
For many of us, this weekend will be the first opportunity of the year to barbeque. Before lighting the grill take the usual precautions. Be sure to clear away any flammable debris and consider the safety of children and dogs. Place the grill in an out-of-the-way area and keep an eye on your babies, both humans and canine. This is an easy precaution to forget so make the mental note now!
Please Don’t Feed the Dog
If you’re hosting loved ones, or visiting for that matter, be sure and remind them not to feed your dog table scraps. Introducing unhealthy foods into your dog’s diet can cause all sorts of complications. By simply reminding your friends and family not to feed your pup, you can protect everyone from pleasantries, especially your favorite furry friend!
Water Safety
If you are spending time around water, it is once again important to consider the safety of dogs and children. Having not spent much time around bodies of water in the winter, it’s sometimes easy to let our guard down. Remind kids of the risks that water poses and watch your pups closely. If they do take a dip, be sure they can safely exit the water and keep an eye out for hazards, such as boat traffic.
