How to License Your Dog in St. Louis

Do you live in St. Louis and want to license your dog? Read below to find out more!

What is Licensing?

Licensing confirms that your pal is vaccinated and registered with the city. This is required for your furry friend to remain in city limits and to avoid a ticket or fine on your end.

What Vaccinations Are Required?

The rabies vaccine is the only vaccination that the city requires. But, depending on the vaccine your vet distributes, registration must be updated every 1 or 3 years. Additionally, other vaccinations are available to maintain your companion’s health. You can talk with your vet to determine what vaccinations your pup should have.

How to Register

If you get your furry friend vaccinated in the City of St. Louis, your vet will give you the registration certificate. If they do not give one to you, you should request it. Also, make sure that you always know where the certificate is in case you need to present it to Animal Control, City Animal Care, or Police Officer on request. Additionally, your vet should also provide you with registration tags that you should attach to your companion’s collar.

However, if you get your pup vaccinated by a vet outside of the City of St. Louis, there are different steps to take. Then, you should go in person to the Animal Care and Control administrative offices and bring proof of your pup’s vaccination.  The office is located at 1520 Market St. in Suite 4051. Also, they are open on weekdays from 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Is There A Fee?

If your furry friend is spayed or neutered, it costs $4 to register and $50 if they are not. Also, you should expect to pay this fee at the Animal Care and Control office when you register your companion. But, if you lose the certificate or the tag, simply bring proof of vaccination to the Control office and a new one will be given to you after paying just $1.

Follow the steps above to license your four-legged friend with the City of St. Louis!
