Picking the Right Breed 3/3

Sit Means Sit OF Waukesha Offers dog obedience classes to help you and your dog fully enjoy life together. We’ve discussed several factors to consider when choosing a breed to bring home and make part of the family. One subject we haven’t not touched upon is children. It is essential to get a breed that work with your whole family, not just the adults. The areas of to keep in consideration are it’s energy level, it’s shedding habits, and it’s general temperament. Some breeds are dominant and if not breed for families, and raised with children make bad combinations. For instance, a Blue Heeler breed for working with cattle and not socialized to kids would not be the best choice for a house of little quick moving feet. General consensus would suggest that the Bulldog is one of the top choices for a family. They are known as being loyal, reliable brave and determined. They do need clear training or they can become disobedient. They truly love children.  Beagles also make great dogs for children though you need to make sure you have a secure fence or they will follow their nose right through the neighborhood. Beagles are sweet dogs, they are gentle and tolerant of children. They like to be kept busy so they are an excellent choice of your children a bit older and can play with them, if they get bored they will get their energy out diggin holes or running off after the closest rabbit.
