Tips for a Comfier Cone of Shame

Tips for a Comfier “Cone of Shame”

Many know the shameful look a dog might get when they are required to wear a cone. Oftentimes, a cone is required as a wound is healing or post-surgery. The purpose of the cone is to stop the pooch from irritating or hurting itself while in recovery.

Many cones, though, can be awkward and heavy for a dog. Here are a few ways to make the cone of shame a little less uncomfortable.

Pantyhose

Take a pair of pantyhose and cut about six inches away from the top to form a long tube. This fashionable neck warmer will add volume around the neck to prevent your small dog from getting to unwanted areas.

Pool Noodles

One can cut up a pool noodle in small chunks and string them with twine to form a puffy necklace of sorts. Make sure the twine is the correct length for your dog’s neck for obvious safety reasons. Best for larger dogs, this pool noodle necklace with bop around happily with your dog, while keeping them safe.

Towels

For all sizes of dogs, try using a towel. After measuring the perfect fit towel for your pooch, wrap it around their neck and secure it with duct tape. This method is very comfortable, yet safe, for dogs.

These alternative cones are great options for dogs that just want to be comfortable while recovering!
