Spring Activities with your Dog

Before you know, the temperatures will be warmer and spring will be here! During the winter, our dogs can get cooped up and be eager to get outside. They’re probably can’t wait to enjoy the warm weather and experience all that spring has to offer. In the depths of winter, it can be challenging to find fun things to do with your dog in the freezing temperatures. But when the first day of spring arrives, you get to soak up the sun and get outside with your furry friend. Here are some spring activities that will get you inspired and ready to take on spring with your pup!

Rough It- Or “Glamp”

Are you outdoorsy and love experiencing everything nature has to offer? Or are you a little hesitant to camp? Either way, consider planning a camping trip as a fun way to experience spring! You could easily leave your dog with a friend or a boarding program while you’re out camping. But bringing them along adds a whole new level of fun and excitement. Depending on what you like, you can choose to go full-camping in a tent or “glamp” in a dog-friendly cabin. On top of this, camping opens up a world of activities, like hiking, swim in a lake, or just explore!

Swimming Outside

If your pup loves the water, once the temps and the water warm up, get outside and go swimming. Look for a lake, creek, stream, pond, or river in your area that is safe for your dog (and you) to swim in! If your pup doesn’t have a lot of experience swimming, be sure to practice at a pool first or read up on safety tips. Also remember that certain breeds can’t really swim well, specially breeds like pugs and bulldogs.

Get in a Workout Routine

Nothing screams spring more than getting back into an exercise routine. If you’ve falling off the wagon with your New Year’s Resolution, spring is the perfect time for you and your dog to start working out more. Whether you want to run, walk, bike, or rollerblade, there are so many ways to be active with your dog. Look into some local dog parks and reach out to fellow dog owners to plan a weekly or more frequent doggie workout date!

Obstacle Courses

If your pup loves to get a little competitive or just loves to jump around on things, an obstacle course is a great way to get them to try a new experience. Your dog can practice and master the obstacle course while getting out their energy. Whether you want to buy more sophisticated equipment or build your own, it’s pretty easy to make a course for your dog. Set up this space in your backyard and let your dog go to town! You can even invite some of your fellow pet parents to bring over their dogs to try to course to make it even more fun.

Plan a Shopping Trip

Your area probably has at least one or two outdoor malls or dog-friendly stores. Do your research and find some places that are welcoming of pups. Plan a fun day where you can take your dog on an adventure. Your dog will get to experience a new place and people while you shop till you drop! If you want to spoil your dog with some gifts, head to stores like PetSmart and Petco, where they also usually allow dogs in! Pick out some new toys or buy them some of their favorite treats. While you’re on this adventure, find a dog-friendly restaurant where you can enjoy good food and great weather!

No matter what you do, we’re sure your dog will love getting outside and spending time with their favorite human. Have fun and let us know what your favorite spring activity is!
