Baxter

”Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy’

The beloved friend to San Diego’s top-rated newsman in the 1970’s, Baxter plays a surprisingly important role. He is very close with Ron, who often has enlightening conversations with him fairly often. After being punted into a river, Baxter returns to save both Ron and Veronica from bears. The Terrier mix earns his way to our list for his scruffy look and stoic attitude.

Dug

‘Up’

This lovably sweet Golden Retriever is unique in his ability to speak English through his special collar. Dug is friendly, optimistic, and easily distracted on his adventures. He loves tennis balls old man Carl. You can even meet him at some of the Disney parks! Stream it on Disney+.

Marley

‘Marley & Me

Another Yellow Lab, Marley is considered the most lovable worst dog. His story tells not only of his insatiable hunger and untrainable behavior, but his heart of gold and undying devotion. His antics as the family grows (both in number and in age) provide both entertainment and comedy, making his death at the end both devastating and real.

Shadow

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Another Golden (sensing a trend here), Shadow is a wise and obedient family dog who gets lost with his comrades Chance (a young American Bulldog) and Sassy (a Himalayan cat). His sweet and devoted personality make him lovable and memorable throughout their journey. Almost home, he falls in a mud-hole and is unable to climb out due to his age, where he accepts his fate. After the other two return home across the hill, Shadow limps over the hillside showing his impregnable love for his boy, Peter. Shadow is the ideal American dog, making his return the perfect ending.

Unflinchingly faithful and entertaining to boot, these dogs find a way into our hearts.
