Keep These Thanksgiving Foods Away From Fido

Keep These Thanksgiving Foods Away from Fido!

Thanksgiving is all about family, gratitude, and, of course, the food! But, some of the festive food we enjoy could be more dangerous to your canine companions. So, you can read below to learn what Thanksgiving foods should be kept from Fido!

Grapes and Raisins

Even in small amounts, grapes and raisins are highly toxic to dogs. They cause kidney damage that can be life-threatening and potentially irreversible if a high volume is eaten. So, keep the fruit tray and ambrosia salad away from Fido!

Turkey Bones and Skin

Eating turkey bones is a hazard for your furry friend because they can cause choking, bowel obstruction, or even puncture your pal’s intestines. So, don’t give your pal the turkey bones as a Thanksgiving treat, and let them stick to chewing bones intended for them! Plus, turkey skin contains a lot of fat that can lead to an upset stomach, vomiting, and diarrhea. So, if you want to feed your pal turkey, keep it plain and simple!

Gravy

Gravy may be the highlight of your holiday meal. However, it contains garlic, onions, spices, and unsafe dog seasonings. Plus, fatty sauces can give your dog diarrhea, and no one wants to visit the vet on a fun family holiday!

Onions and Garlic

Onions, garlic, chives, leeks, and shallots are toxic to dogs and cats because they cause blood cell damage. Any amount of ingestion can cause harm to your pal. However, high doses can cause life-threatening destruction of red blood cells. So, don’t feed your canine pieces of onion, garlic, or any dishes with these ingredients!

Salty, Fatty, and Spiced Foods

Excess salt, fat, and spices are not suitable for your canine to eat. Salt can cause excessive thirst, urination, and even sodium poisoning. Excess fat can cause pancreatitis and can even be life-threatening. Plus, herbs and spices can harm your pal by causing an upset stomach. So, feeding your furry friend plain, unseasoned, unsalted, unbuttered meat and dog-safe veggies this holiday season is best.

Chocolate and Desserts

It is common knowledge that your companion shouldn’t snack on chocolate. However, this holiday revolves around food, so it is worth the reminder! Plus, sugary foods like our favorite pies and cookies are not for Fido either. Lastly, food containing artificial sweeteners is off-limits, too!

Alcohol

Your canine’s metabolism can’t process the ethanol in alcohol like yours can. So, they can become confused, lack coordination, have difficulty breathing, and possibly even experience seizures if they ingest alcohol. So be sure to keep your glasses out of Fido’s reach.

Follow the list above to keep Fido safe this Thanksgiving!
