Does your family have a new furry addition? Puppy training is an effective and essential decision you need to make for your puppy. Research has shown that puppies who attend puppy training and are exposed to more dog friends, children, and adults are less likely to show nervousness, have symptoms of separation anxiety, show fear responses to things such as vacuum cleaners, and trust their owners more!

When you choose Sit Means Sit Cincinnati for your puppy training, you’ll be helping you and your pup gain a leg up in communication.

What Does Our Puppy Training Process Look Like?

Our process at Sit Means Sit Cincinnati is built around providing quality puppy training throughout each step. Below are a few areas to keep in mind for our puppy training process.

How Old Are the Puppies in the Puppy Leadership Academy Program?

Our puppy leadership academy is for puppies starting at 8 weeks old and goes through three different stages to be the most comprehensive and holistic training program you will find anywhere for your puppy.

Stage One: Puppy Class

From ages 8 weeks to 16 weeks, we only meet once a week for about an hour at our facility. During this time, we use a whole host of training techniques, including:

  • Body language
  • Luring with treats and toys
  • Using a leash to guide and shape your puppy’s behavior and positioning

Stage one is a great time for socialization and learning how to play and interact with other pups! As with all stages of training, the expectations are age-appropriate for your puppy.

Stage Two: Formal Training Begins

Once your puppy reaches 16 weeks, we begin more formal training. This starts with a 5-day board and train program at our facility. Your puppy will stay with our expert dog trainers at our facility from Tuesday through Saturday. On Saturday we’ll have a two-hour Transition of Leadership lesson for you.

After the Transition of Leadership lesson, you will bring your puppy home for two days. On the following Tuesday, you will bring your puppy back for another 5-day board and train program at our facility, with another Transition of Leadership lesson on Saturday.

Stage Three: Formal Training Continued

At around age 8 months, around three months after the previous two 5-day boot camps, your final 5-day board and train session will be scheduled. This gives us another opportunity to work with you and your puppy in a formal setting after your relationship has matured and more trust has been established. We feel this is the best way to not only train your puppy but to also train you.

What Happens After the Program Ends?

After the program, we offer lifelong support and 1 full year of group classes for your dog. With our Cincinnati puppy training, you’ll see immediate results for all puppy behaviors, including:

  • Jumping
  • Nipping
  • Barking
  • Jumping on furniture
  • Bothering older dogs
  • Chasing children

Once you finish the puppy leadership academy, we will continue to be a resource for you to continue practicing and learning new skills as your dog grows and matures. We don’t stop sending our children to school, so why would you stop bringing your puppy to group class?

How Involved Are You in the Puppy Leadership Program Process?

The Puppy Leadership Program definitely is a collaborative effort, meaning it is up to you to put into place the structure and leadership that we teach you, and we want you to participate in the group classes so you can continue learning the best way to be the leader your pup needs you to be!
