Winter Myths Part 3

Winter can be a magical time for you and your dog, especially if you know how to handle it. Playing in the snow, being cozy inside – the possibilities are endless. At Sit Means Sit, we want you and your dog to have the best winter ever. That is why we are dispelling common myths about dogs and winter.

In our last blog, we discussed leaving your dog outside and in the car during winter. In this blog, we have one more myth to dispel!

MYTH: Dogs don’t need exercise in the winter

  • Truth: This myth comes from humans who don’t want to go outside in the cold weather. Most dogs are totally good to take a walk around the block at least, and even if you can’t get outside, you should exercise indoors. You can do things like tug-of-war or making mealtime a scavenger hunt.
  • Allowing your dog to put on weight this winter will not help him or her come spring. Dogs have shorter lifespans than we do, so it is very important to keep them healthy. There is nothing better than being active to keep everybody in good health and spirits.

Sit Means Sit is located in Madison, Wisconsin, so we know how gnarly winters can be. If you need more indoor activities for you and your dog, we have some ideas! We specialize in training dogs to live happy lives with their owners. Even if you think an issue is insurmountable, we challenge you to come in for a consultation. We are here to help!
