California Dog Rescued from Floodwaters Thanks to Apple AirTag

Over President’s Day weekend earlier this year, an Australian Shepard was suddenly swept away from his human by massive floodwaters in San Bernardino, California. The one-year-old pup, Seamus, and his dog mom took a routine walk around the neighborhood; however, Seamus wandered too close to the flood control basin, causing him to get swept into the current. Luckily, even though he was not on a leash, he always wore his collar with ID tags and an AirTag!

Meanwhile, local RV facility users alerted employees and authorities to a dog floating down the nearby channel. They noted to police that the dog had ultimately claimed into another tube for safety. Miraculously, he made it out of the basin and into a nearby access tube for overflow. Luckily, the authorities rescued him, and Seamus still had his collar on after his swimming adventure. Seamus was unharmed from his trip in the tubes.

The fire department used his ID tag to identify the dog, then noticed another little device attached to his collar. Seamus had an Apple AirTag! This meant his owners were actively tracking the dog to find where he came from the basin. Using both of these tools, the firefighters are much quicker to find the proper owner and return the pet to safety. Seamus and his mom reunited immediately following his recuse, and she is very grateful to local law enforcement for their efficiency!
