Supporting California Dog Charities for the Holidays

Supporting California Dog Charities for the Holidays

The season of giving is in full swing, so this holiday when you’re thinking of good causes you want to support, consider donating or volunteering at one of these fantastic California Dog Charities.

Animal Rescue Foundation

Contra Costa County, California

Animal Rescue Foundation strives to create a world where every furry friend has a loving and safe home. ARF came to be when Tony La Russa found a stray pup during an Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees game. When he went to take the dog to a no-kill shelter, he was surprised to find that there weren’t any in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Because of this, he and his wife Elaine decided to find homes for abandoned animals on their own. Which then grew into the foundation of Animal Rescue Foundation, where they also strive to help control pet overpopulation through spaying & neutering programs

Canine Companions For Independence

Santa Rosa, California

Canine Companions For Independence is the largest non-profit provider of assistance/service dogs. They’re recognized globally for all that they do in successfully matching people to the right dogs that can support them in their journey to greater independence. On top of that, these pooches provide a lifetime of loyal and loving companionship to those who need it.

Dogs Without Borders

California

Dogs Without Borders works to rescue stray and abandoned canines from local and international shelters in an effort to find them their forever home. Since their creation in 2006, they’ve placed over 4000 dogs into the care of loving pet parents. With the countless support of local volunteers and donations, DWB is able to support its clients even after adoption by offering advice for their specific pup to ensure them a long, happy, and healthy life.

Golden Gate Basset Rescue

Northern California

Golden Gate Basset Rescue should reveal some of what it does just in the title alone: help Basset Hounds. GGBR rescues these pups from abusive, abandoned, and unwanted living situations and then helps relocate them to loving, welcoming, and life-time owners.

Helping Out Pets Everyday (HOPE)

Upland, California

Helping Out Pets Everyday (HOPE) was formed with the mission to save the lives of furry friends by advocating on their behalf. They work on educating the public on the value of spaying and neutering animals, along with providing empowerment through dedicated volunteer work.

Search Dog Foundation

Santa Paula, California

Search Dog Foundation makes it its mission to strengthen disaster response in America through the rescuing and recruiting of dogs who are to be partnered with first responders to help save lives. These amazing canines are trained to find survivors who may be buried alive in the aftermath of terrible disasters. The SDF program allows these four-legged heroes to be partnered with fire departments for no additional cost, giving them this extra support for free.

Donating and volunteering is not only a great way to give back to your community, but it’s also something that’s known to boost spirits. So next time you’re looking at your pooch and thinking of how thankful you are for them, consider paying it forward by supporting a local dog organization.
