Be the Leader
Dogs are pack animals, meaning they will inherently follow the “pack leader.” It is your job to establish yourself as a leader from the very beginning. This requires consistency, stability and strong leadership, day in and day out. Your puppy will sense your confidence and naturally follow your lead, as long as you establish your position as the pack leader from the very beginning.
Potty Training
Most puppies grasp the concept of house training between the ages of 2 and 4 months. It is extremely important to start working on potty training from the day your pup enters your home. Even if they don’t seem to be catching on, consistency is key. Select a designated area your pup will feel comfortable going potty. Return to this same spot each time you take your pup out. Make sure to take them out first thing in the morning and continue to return to this spot throughout the day. Do your best to anticipate when your pup will likely need to go again and take them out regularly. Reward them each time they successfully go potty outside with a simple verbal praise or a small treat. Remain calm and consistent throughout the potty training process. Before you know it, you will have a housebroken pup!
