Fruits & Vegetables That You Can Feed Fido

When chopping up your produce, do you ever wonder if these colorful superfoods are safe for your furry friend too? The answer is (mostly) yes! Fresh fruits and vegetables are key factors in your pet’s health and building its immune system. Fruits contain tons of vitamins and fiber for dogs’ metabolisms and general health, while vegetables are packed with potassium to help regulate their blood pressure. We made a complete list of all the safe snacks for Fido!

Fruits

Apples, Pears

Apples and pears are great sources of Vitamins A and C and fiber for your pet! Both fruits must be cored and seeds removed, as those parts can harm your pet’s health.

Bananas

Bananas are packed with potassium, various Vitamins, and biotin to make their coat extra shiny! Because of their high sugar content, these should be an occasional treat.

Blueberries, Cranberries, Raspberries, Strawberries

These four berries are amazing additions to Fido’s treat rotation because of their vast antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties! We recommend trying these little at a time to see how your pet digests the various fruits.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers are great treats for overweight pups because they have no carbs but are still yummy! They’re loaded with Vitamin C and K, plus potassium!

Mangoes

Vitamin-packed! These tropical fruits contain vitamins A, B, C, and E for a healthy pup. The pit must be removed before giving to your pet; the pit has traces of cyanide that can be extremely harmful to your pet.

Oranges

Oranges are a known great source of Vitamin C, but they also contain lots of fiber and potassium! Veterinarians recommend tossing the peel before letting your pet indulge.

Veggies

Broccoli

Finely chopped broccoli is a great occasional snack for your furry friends, full of fiber and Vitamin C! It does contain a small amount of isothiocyanate, which can upset your pet’s gastrointestinal tract if they receive too much.

Brussels Sprouts

While brussels sprouts are a great source of antioxidants for Fido, too much can cause gas!

Carrots, Celery

Carrots and celery are the best vegetables to give to Fido as treats and snacks! These veggies contain lots of vitamins and nutrients, aiding your pet’s heart and eye health.

Green Beans, Peas

All types of green beans, steamed, raw, or canned, are safe for your pooch! Beans are full of fiber while low in calories, a great healthy treat! Peas are similar but contain extra proteins.
