Fun Indoor Activities You Can Do with Your Dog

With the weather getting colder, it can be challenging to take your dog out for a walk, but they still need exercise. What are you left with? A dilemma. Luckily, there are plenty of fun activities to do indoors with your dog.

Yummy Hide and Seek

A large part of Fido’s brain is dedicated to his sense of smell. Use that to your advantage with a fun game of Find the Treat. The rules are simple: it’s hide and seek but with their favorite snacks! Hide them out-of-sight in easy-to-reach places, like under the couch or in their toy box. The goal is for them to flex their sense of smell.

Tug of War

This is an oldie but goodie and is a great way to engage with your dog indoors. We all played it in school, so we won’t detail the rules. However, let’s talk about some general guidelines.

Make sure that you have enough space to move around. You don’t want to break any bones or vases, and the best way to do that is by moving furniture. You’ll want to invest in a good tug toy, too. (Say that five times fast!) You don’t want to have the toy break in the middle of wrestling, so look for something sturdy and affordable. The Feeko Dog Rope Toy is a great place to start!

Good Ol’ Fetch

This is a classic for the outdoors and can be played with virtually anything, stick, ball, or toy! If you can throw it, then you can play fetch. The trick is to adapt it for indoor play, which can be tricky if you have a lot of breakable belongings. If you have a staircase, try using it as a game area. Throw your toy up the stairs and have them fetch the toy. It will tire them out quickly! A garage is a great game area, too.

Indoor Obstacle Courses

Think of this as the dog version of an indoor trampoline course! All you have to do is create a maze of objects around your house and have your dog run through it as fast and delicately as possible. Have him rerun the course until he gets it right, then give him a nice treat. You can use couch cushions, blankets, chairs, tables, and even your bed! As long as it’s unbreakable, it’s an obstacle. Plan a Playdate

Keeping up with your dog’s energy can be hard on your own. Instead of trying to keep up, throw another dog into the mix. If your playful pup goes to doggy daycare regularly, invite one of the other owners over for a playdate. They can do any of the above suggestions together and more! Plus, you can make a friend yourself.

Remember that keeping up with your dog takes a lot of energy. So, get plenty of rest and get ready to play. You’ll both have fun at the end of the day!
