Firework Safety with Fido
With the 4th of July just around the corner, most pet parents are uneasy about the firework traditions. Fireworks are scary for pets since they are not aware of what is going on and they tend to hate the loud bangs. According to the AKC, the highest number of dogs run away on Independence Day because they get spooked by the loud explosions. Here are some ways to keep Fido happy so you can enjoy your night!
Keep Them Inside
Once the sun goes down, bring your furry friends inside to attempt to muffle the sounds a bit. Being inside will help make them feel safer and add an effective buffer to the chaos. If left outside, Fido could get spooked and escape the fence.
Safe Haven
Before the night begins, try to create an internal space in the home for your pet to hide if they need a den spot. Make sure to pick a spot away from windows or external doors, plus add their favorite toys and some fluffy blankets to burrow.
White Noise
Leaving on fans, the TV, or radio can all help drown out the explosions. Adding that white noise aids in distracting Fido from what’s going on outside and soothes those nerves.
Proper ID
Just in case Fido tries to make a run for it, make sure their collar is current and up-to-date. There is a higher chance of them being returned back home if they have the proper identification.
Comfort
Being there to comfort your furry friend when they’re in distress is the best way to make them feel safe again. If you plan to leave Fido home alone, leave them with you-scented clothing items or towels to ease their nerves.
Try to take your pup for a walk before the festivities start, hopefully, you’ll tire them out and they’ll just sleep through the madness! Check down below for more related articles!
