DIY Dog Toys You Can Make From Household Items

DIY Dog Toys You Can Make From Household Items

Whether you’re tired of buying new toys or are looking for something fun you can do for your pup -DIY dog toys are a great option. With some everyday household items you can make a variety of different toys for Fido, here are just a few.

Plastic Bottle Tug Toy

What You’ll Need:

  • Plastic Bottle
  • About a Yard of Fabric (an old bed sheet could work)
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut three or four strips from your fabric, each being about 1 inch wide
  2. With your remaining cloth place your water bottle of choice about 3 inches from the edge and roll the material around the bottle
  3. Tuck in the excess just before you reach the end of the fabric (sort of like you would with a burrito)
  4. Now use your 1 inch wide strips of fabric you cut previously and tie them tightly around the bottle (be sure to tie one right after the bottle cap)
  5. Cut the excess fabric into 2 inch wide strips.
  6. Using three strips at a time, braid them together and finish by knotting off the ends

T-Shirt Rope Toy

What You’ll Need:

  • Multiple T-Shirts
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut your t-shirts into 12 strips (about 1-2 yards long)
  2. You’ll then braid the pieces using the scoubidou technique (also used on friendship bracelets)
  3. Tie up the ends, and you’re done!

Simple Sock Toy

What You’ll Need:

  • Tube Sock or any kind of full-length sock
  • Scissors
  • Empty water bottle
  • A roll of twine or string

Directions:

  1. Cut the foot off the sock, so you’re left with just the top end that’s shaped like a tube (if you’re using a standard-sized water bottle you’ll need about 10 inches of a sock)
  2. Insert the water bottle into the sock and tie the ends closed with twine or string
  3. Finish by cutting off any excess

While making these toys, you might discover a new gadget you can make from the items in your house, or you might even perfect one of the creations above, depending on your pooch. Whatever you end up doing, knowing how to make some DIY dogs in your back pocket is a great way to save money or get your pup a toy on the fly.
