Easy Pumpkin Recipes for Your Dog

You and your dog probably have a lot in common. You probably didn’t expect that loving pumpkin flavored things was one of them. If you find yourself in pumpkin spice season, don’t forget your best friend. Here are some easy pumpkin recipes that are safe for your dog. Remember, these ingredients are people-safe, too, so don’t be afraid to enjoy one… or five!

Banana-kin Doggie Treats

This recipe is simple and only needs four ingredients. The best part is, you can choose the shape. We recommend using a cookie cutter since it will help give you more even servings, but it’s up to you.

Ingredients

  1. 3 cups and 2 tablespoons of Whole Wheat Flour
  2. 2 medium-sized eggs
  3. 1 cup of Pumpkin Puree*
  4. 1 large banana

*Note: always make sure to use pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling, as filling contains sugars and artificial flavors that can be toxic to dogs.

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, mash the bananas well. Mix in the 2 eggs, the puree, and the 3 cups of flour. Set aside the 2 tablespoons for later. Make sure to Mix well until you get a good enough consistency. You need to be able to spread it out across the counter. Gradually add more flour if necessary to get this consistency.
  3. Use the 2 tablespoons of flour to dust the counter and your rolling pin. Set your dough on the counter and roll it out with the pin. Do so until the dough is ⅛’’ thick.
  4. Use your cookie cutter (or a cup if you want regular circles) to cut out the treats. Set them on your baking tray as you go along.
  5. Bake your treats for 20 minutes, and cool for 10 before you give them to your buddy. Enjoy!

Tasty Frozen Pumpkin Cubes

This recipe is even simpler than the one before! You only need two ingredients and it’s oven-free. You’ll be freezing your mixture so make sure you have an ice tray handy. If you’d like to treat your dog to something fancy, invest in a silicone mold of your choice.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup of Plain Yogurt
  2. 1 cup of Pumpkin Puree

Directions

  1. Thoroughly mix your two ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Start spooning your mix into each cube of your ice tray. Same applies if you use a mold. For optimal results, gently tap the mold or tray down onto the counter to fill in every air bubble.
  3. Set in the freezer and leave for 24hrs. Let thaw for 5 minutes before feeding your dog.

PB&P Doggie Bones

You can’t give your dog jelly, but its okay! Use pumpkin instead. These treats are sure to make anyone – or any dog – got nuts. Just like the Banana-kin treats, make sure to have your cookie cutters – or cup – handy for nice and even shapes.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups + 2 tablespoons of Whole Wheat Flour
  2. 1 cup of pumpkin puree
  3. ½ cup of Xylitol-free Peanut Butter*

*It’s always best to avoid artificial sweeteners in general, but make especially sure that your ingredients do not contain xylitol.

Directions

  1.  Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Mix your pumpkin puree and peanut butter together in a bowl. Make sure it’s mixed well. Gradually fold in your 2 cups of flour until you get the same, malleable consistency as the banana-kin treats.
  3. Scatter the 2 extra tablespoons of flour on the counter and your rolling pin. Roll the dough out until it’s ⅛’’ thick.
  4. Use your cup or cutter to make out the treats and set them on an ungreased baking tray about ½ inch apart.
  5. Bake for 12 minutes and let cool for at least 6 minutes.
