The Best Fruits & Vegetables for Dogs

When you’re cooking dinner or making a snack, you may wonder, “can Fido have a bite?” – And sometimes the answers no, because not all the food we love is healthy for your furry friend. But there are plenty of fruits and vegetables that are! You can incorporate them in their daily meal or make them healthy treats – either way, these fruits, and veggies are a great addition to your pup’s diet.

Asparagus

Cut these healthy green spears into bite-sized pieces, and your pup’s mouth will water. Plus this super vitamin vegetable is filled with vitamin K, A, B1, B2, C and E – PLUS folate, iron, copper, fiber, manganese and potassium.

Watermelon

Watermelon, like many other pink and red fruits, contains lycopene, which is an amazing and powerful antioxidant that helps with sun protection, improved heart health, and a lower risk of certain types of cancer. Fido will also go crazy for just a piece of this juicy and delicious fruit. Watermelon is also loaded with vitamin A, B-6 and C, along with thiamin.

Blueberries

Blueberries are also a great source of vitamins and health benefits that your dog will happily devour. Packed with high levels of resveratrol that is known to reduce the risk of cancer along with fighting heart disease. A bonus, these tiny blue-colored berries contain tannins that help prevent UTIs.

Sweet Potatoes

Trust us when we say your pooch will find sweet potatoes extremely tasty. They’re also a great source of vitamin E, A, B-6 and C, along with calcium, iron, folate, potassium, copper, thiamine and iron. Chop them up and just sprinkle them on top of your dog’s food bowl for an extra healthy yet delicious treat.

Green Beans

Don’t worry, convincing your furry friend to eat green beans will be much easier than convincing a child to. They’re also incredibly healthy for both humans and pooches alike – filled with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin A, C and K. You’ll also discover they’re an excellent source fo calcium, copper, fiber, folic acid, iron, niacin, manganese, potassium, riboflavin, thiamin and beta carotene. Pretty much they’re the super-veggie for your pup’s stomach.

Cantaloupe

Almost everyone you know most likely loves cantaloupe, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that your canine companion does too. They’re not only packed with vitamins A, B-6 and C, as well as fiber, folate, niacin, and potassium – but they help with your pup’s eye site as well! Cantaloupes also contain beta carotene which (as we’ve mentioned in previous fruits and veggies above) reduces the risk of cancer and prevents cell damage.

There are plenty of other fruits and veggies that are great for your pup! But – there are also some that you should never feed them, so always ensure you check before you throw Fido a random piece of fruit or veggie.
