A Guide to French Bulldogs

Basics

Frenchies are great companion dogs that can weigh between 16 and 28 pounds and have a life span of 11 to 14 years. The breed loves human contact and generally gets along with everyone. However, socialization is important for this breed because they can become territorial over their family.

Additionally, Frenchies do well in apartments as well as smaller homes. The breed does not bark excessively. But, they are fantastic watchdogs and defenders.

Health

French Bulldogs don’t need a lot of exercise but should be given a couple of 15-minute walks per day to keep them fit and at a healthy weight. Additionally, the breed is susceptible to heat exhaustion and shouldn’t stay outside on a hot day. This is the perfect companion to stay with and spend time with.

Additionally, some diseases are more common in the breed, but not all Frenchies develop them. For example, hip dysplasia, brachycephalic syndrome, allergies, hemivertebrae, patellar luxation, IVDD, cleft palate, and elongated soft palate are all possible health issues a Frenchie may have.

Grooming

Frenchies are easy when it comes to grooming. They only need occasional brushing to keep their coat healthy and they are average shedders. You should also clean their ears with a damp cloth and trim their nails regularly.

Trainability

The breed is intelligent and training is a breeze as long as you keep it fun! However, they can be stubborn so having a consistent, firm, and patient parent is a great pair. But, house training can be difficult and the breed is overall a bit messy. They are known to drool, shed, and be gassy. Additionally, they have a low prey drive and are less likely to wander.

Frenchies are gentle companions who are happy to relax around the house with you or follow you. They are mischievous, silly, and a constant presence that you will love and who will love you right back.
