Reasons Your Dog Might Not Be Eating

Have you noticed Fido not eating? Your companion may be refusing to eat meals, or even treats. Read below to learn some reasons your dog might not be eating.

Stress

Stress can be caused by a variety of factors. For example, if you are traveling and are in unfamiliar surroundings, your pal may be nervous or uncomfortable. The same goes for the location of where your companion enjoys his meals in your home. If you have moved your pup’s dishes, this may cause nervousness or discomfort. Thus, your pal may not eat as they normally do.

Illness

Sickness often causes a decreased appetite in dogs. So, if your pal is not eating as normal, look for other symptoms they may be displaying. However, do not be alarmed! These symptoms don’t always indicate a serious issue. But, you should contact your vet as soon as you can.

Dental Issues

Your pal may not eat because of pain in their mouth. So, have them checked out for a broken tooth, a loose tooth, gingivitis, or even an oral tumor. Some problems are can not be seen because they occur below the gum line. Keep up with your pal’s dental health to prevent periodontal disease and other dental issues!

Pickiness

Your pal may just be picky. They may be picky about the food they eat, where they eat, who they are around while they eat, and more. Because of this pickiness, they may be uncomfortable in some situations. For example, they may not want to eat from a bowl at an uncomfortable height. Or, they may not want to eat near another dog. However, you should never assume your pal is being picky without ruling out the possibility of an illness first.

Recent Vaccine

While vaccines are great at saving lives, they may have temporary adverse affects. For example, you pal may be sore, tired, and have a loss of appetite. However, a lot of these symptoms are minor and do not affect your pal for very long. So, they should be back to their happy self in no time!
