Protecting Your Dog's Paws in the Summer

Protecting Your Dog’s Paws in the Summer

During the summer, we often spend a lot of time with our pups outside enjoying the warm weather. One important detail often forgotten on us is that the hot pavement can burn their paws.

Remember if the ground can cook an egg during the summer, it can burn your dogs paws too.

Keep your dog from getting burned this Summer.

1. Walk Your Dog When It’s Cool

This is probably obvious, but sometimes over considered. Daily walks are great for your dog, but be mindful of the time and place. The coolest parts of the day are typically early morning or late evening.

2. Toughen Your Dog’s Paws

When it’s time to walk your dog, it can be a good idea to stick to pavement during the cool times of the day. While the pavement is cool, it won’t burn their paws, and help to toughen them to prevent potential burns.

3. Stay On The Grass

If you take your dog out during the warmer times of the day, stay on the grass and stick to the shade.

4. Use Paw Wax

Paw wax can be smeared onto your dog’s paw pads to protect them from harmful surfaces, such as hot cement or harmful chemicals like road salts. If you need something right away, you can try Vaseline.

5. Dog Shoes or Socks

Dog shoes or socks are a decent solution to protect their paws. Be aware that all dogs won’t love wearing shoes or socks on their feet, give them time to adjust to the new objects on their feet.

Make sure to check your dog’s paw pads after walking to prevent injury and keep them safe.
