Should You Leave the TV on for Fido?

We are constantly trying to find ways to comfort and entertain our pups while we are away. Is leaving the TV on for our furry friends a good solution?

Positives

The TV is a great way to down out noises that bother your pup. For example, noises such as construction, thunder, or fireworks can be covered by the TV. But, you can also use a thunder vest, anxiety medication, or other calming measures.

Additionally, leaving the TV on can act as a security measure. This is because it will give the impression that you are home and can prevent break-ins.

Negatives

The added noise could cause more stress for your four-legged friend. They may enjoy the peace and quiet of being home alone. We can all relate to that. Additionally, dogs have much more sensitive ears than we do. So, having the TV too loud can damage your pal’s hearing. So, even when you are home, keep the TV at a volume that is comfortable for you and your companion.

Should I Leave The TV On?

It all depends on your pup and their preferences. You can determine if your pal likes the TV or not by setting up a pet cam. Then, you can observe their behavior with and without the TV on while you are gone. Or, you can determine their feelings based on how destroyed your house is upon returning home.

Just be sure to associate positive feelings with the TV. So, give your pal a treat or praise each time the TV is turned on. Then, they will think think something good will happen and are more likely to find the noise comforting.

Regardless of what you decide, you will make the best decision for your dog. Be sure to leave your companion with everything they need while you are away. We want to keep our pals happy and healthy while they wait for our return!
