How Telemedicine for Pets Works

After the pandemic, many services transitioned into having in-person and online options, including Vet visits! Some Veterinary Offices have their personal TeleVisit options, or you can google hundreds of independent companies; however, check all proper veterinary accreditations. Some popular choices are Dutch.com, Vetster.com, and PetCoach.com. Online consultations help relieve the already overworked Veterinarian office’s workload, utilizing in-office visits for physical problems or more drastic situations. This is a much more efficient way to approach pet problems without leaving your living room, especially if it’s a minor issue or question to ask. Use this article as a guide to understanding pet telemedicine appointments!

What To Expect During a TeleVisit Appointment

Just like a regular Vet visit, telemedicine visits start with a series of questions about your pet and their concerning symptoms. Typically, they’ll ask for a photo or video of the problem spot/behavior in question. Before or during the appointment, they will ask for a copy of your pet’s health records to refer to past issues or medical problems. You’ll be able to chat with the Veterinary Professionals about what’s going on with your dog and give a detailed description.

After your appointment, some services take a few hours or 1-2 days to decide on a plan of action. They’ll send you a follow-up with a prescription, treatment plan, or additional questions.
