Indoor Dog Activities to Burn Off Energy

Slowly but surely, spring is rolling around, but before the May flowers start blooming, we have plenty of April showers to withstand. That means that the indoor entertainment needs to continue on your part. Running out of ideas on how to keep your furry friend active and entertained indoors? Check out our recommendations for indoor activities to do with your furry friend.

Dog Tricks

The best indoor entertainment for your dog keeps them mentally and physically sharp. Try working on your doggo’s tricks. Need some inspiration for tricks that you can train your doggo on? Use this video for some inspiration on your dog’s next party trick. If you don’t feel like teaching your dog a fun new trick, you can always brush up on their manners and training that they’ve already accomplished. You may think that your dog has mastered their training, but we can all use a review every so often!

Hide and Seek

We all played hide and seek as children, and as many of us, young and old, can attest, this classic game truly never gets old. You can even put a fun spin on it by including your dog in the game. Sprinkle treats around the house and let your dog sniff them out. You can teach them the game by tossing food their way and telling them to find it. Once they’ve mastered that, try hiding the treats in another room and prompt them to go find them. Play with your dog’s favorite treats to give them a special reward for their hard work.

Obstacle Course

Your dog doesn’t have to be the next world agility champion for them to enjoy a good old-fashioned obstacle course. Not sure what obstacles to use for your dog? Get creative! Try couch cushions, broomsticks, chairs, or old rope. You’d be surprised what you can come up with when you put your mind to it. Lure your dog through the course with treats and kind words of encouragement. Soon you will have an agility champion on your hands!

Indoor Dog Park

You don’t have to sit at home with your furry friend, even if the weather doesn’t allow you outside. Your area probably has an indoor off-leash dog park nearby that you can check out with your pooch. This way, they’ll be able to socialize with other doggos and explore the dog park while they’re at it. You get a hands-off day watching over them at the park, and they’ll run all of their energy off pretty quickly.

Cold, gloomy weather may seem like the perfect excuse to curl up and hibernate for a few months, but being active with your dog will help both of you combat the winter blues. Try out these activities to keep your dog entertained.
