Our Favorite Dog Birthday Cake Recipes

We get it. You want to celebrate your dog’s special day like you would for any other member of your family, but regular cake can be dangerous. You see, regular cake has a laundry list of artificial preservatives that can be poisonous for your pet, so you have to be careful. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make your dog a tasty birthday treat without all the junk. Here is a list of our favorite recipes for doggie birthday cake.

Doggy Cheesecake Birthday Bites

Ingredients for the Crust

  • 1.5 cups of plain oats
  • ½ cups of shredded coconut (unsweetened)
  • 2 tbsp. of coconut oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp honey

Ingredients for the Cheesecake 

  • 2 cups low-fat cottage cheese, no preservatives added
  • 1 cup of plain, unsweetened low-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp. light coconut milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp. flour (whole wheat, non-processed.)

Directions for the Crust

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Blend the coconuts and oats together in a food processor to mix well.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and blend until fully combined. It should be malleable but not crumbly. 
  • Grease a 6” cheesecake pan and then add the crust mixture. Make sure to pat it in and form the shape of the cheesecake. 
  • Bake for 12 minutes or until golden. Set aside.

Directions for the Cheesecake

  • Pour the cottage cheese into the blender and blend until smooth. Add the yogurt and blend to combine.
  • Once combined, add the rest of the ingredients and blend one more time until fully incorporated.
  • Pour your tasty concoction into your pan, filling up to just under the top.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or just until it starts to brown. Set it out on the counter to rest and do not touch until you can touch the pan with your bare hand. 
  • Once cooled to touch, turn out the cake from the pan and place it on a dish. Then stick the dish in the fridge for a few hours before serving

Puppy Paw Print Cupcakes

Ingredients for the Cupcake batter

  • ½ cup of flour (can be oat or whole wheat, as long as it is unprocessed and gluten free)
  • ¼ tsp. cinnamon
  • 1tsp. baking powder
  • 1 grated carrot, medium
  • ½ cup of unsweetened applesauce (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol)
  • ¼ peanut butter (also xylitol free)
  • 1 egg

Ingredients for the Frosting (optional)

  • ½ cup yogurt (unsweetened, plain. No xylitol)
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch for stabilization

Directions for the Cupcakes

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease your cupcake mold (You can make the pawprint shape yourself or purchase these cute molds for the cupcake.) and then place the molds onto a cookie sheet for easier movement
  • Whisk together your flour, cinnamon, and baking soda in a large bowl until all lumps are gone. Then add the applesauce, peanut butter, and egg until well combined. 
  • Fold in the carrots.
  • Spoon the mixture into each mold, leaving a little room for the mixture to rise. Gently tap the mold onto the tray to make sure the mixture is completely settled. 
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until done.
  • Let them rest until they’re cool to the touch. Then, add the frosting. 

Directions for the Frosting

  • Mix the yogurt and cornstarch together and whisk until all lumps have disappeared. Then, add the peanut butter and combine well. You can spoon it onto the cupcakes or use a piping set.
