Each dog over the age of four months must receive a rabies vaccine or a letter of exemption from your veterinarian. Once you obtain your pet’s rabies certificate or your exemption letter, take it to the Pinellas County Animal Services office or send it in the mail and a license will be issued.

These license tags are valid throughout a pet’s entire lifetime, much like a person receiving a Social Security number.

License Renewal

Your pet will always have the same license number. However, your pet’s license expires on the date that their rabies vaccine expires. Animal Services will send you a renewal notice before the expiration date.

Animal Services recommends a three-year rabies vaccine which can be obtained by appointment only at Animal Services on Wednesdays from 1-3 pm.

Three notices will be sent to customers that are about to expire or who are past due before an officer is dispatched to your residence for noncompliance.

Lost License Tag

If you lose a license tag, you can receive a replacement tag for $5. Requests can be made in person or through the mail.
