Tips for Cleaning Your Dogs Toys, Bedding, & Dishes

Keeping your canine companions frequently used items clean and sanitized will help reduce their chances of getting sick as well as minimizing any dog odor. Here are some tips to ensure you’re washing your pup’s items the right way!

Keeping those Toys Sanitized

First, make sure you know which of your dog’s toys are washable. Any stuffed soft toys can be thrown in the washing machine. Make sure to use dog-sensitive or specific doggy detergent to not cause your pup any irritation or expose them to toxins. There are also a variety of dog laundry boosters that target stains and smells without being too harsh for your four-legged friend. Any hard or silicone toys should be washed in hot antibacterial soapy water. While taking the time to clean all of Fido’s toys go through them and figure out if there are any that should be thrown out or can even be donated.

Maintaining Quality & Cleanliness in your Dog’s Bed

If possible, having two sets of dog beds allows you to rotate them out; cleaning one when needed while your pup uses the other bed. Alternating your furry friend’s bed weekly will help minimize any dog odors while also keeping your pup’s coat healthy. Try choosing dog beds with removable covers; it will make this process much more manageable. For those of you with senior dogs, you may want to consider investing in an orthopedic bed that will provide them with more comfort.

Having Squeaky Clean Dishes

You don’t reuse and eat off of the same dishes every day without cleaning them, so why should your pup have to? You should be washing your dog’s dishes in hot water with antibacterial soap daily. Having at least two sets of food and water dishes for your canine will allow you always to be using a clean plate while the other is being washed. Stainless steel bowls are recommended due to their easiness to clean and the benefit that they won’t stain.

Cleaning all these items may seem a bit excessive, but it will help keep your pooch healthy and your house smelling more like your home and less like your dog.
